Day 114- 1 Chronicles 1-2

  1. This is the sanitized version of history that we have just read in Kings. The Chronicler surveys the patriarchal genealogy from Adam to Noah, to Abraham, to the sons of Jacob. His main interest is in the southern kingdom and the ideal rule of David. The royal line of David springs from the union of Judah and Tamar, a name which appears in the genealogy of Jesus. According to the Chronicler the most important clan of Judah is that of Hezron. From Hezron springs the royal family of David.

  2. In the words of Rev. Michel Piazza in the book, Liberating Word, page 187, "Clearly the writer wants us to think well of David." He leaves out all the scandelous stories. However, "As Freud tried to teach us, repressing the bad only weakens the good. Recounting the reigns of these two great kings (Solomon and David)without noting their fauts and failings only makes them into artificial cariacatures." Piazza goes on the say "That seems to be a lesson for us all to learn. Denying our faults, failures and weaknesses never makes us better people, only more artificial."
