  1. Elisha floats the head of a borrowed axe long enough for the borrower to retrieve it. With his prophetic sight, Elisha continually makes known to the Israelite king the military plans of the king of Syria. When the king of Syria attempts to seize the informer, Elisha is surrounded by horses and chariots of fire. The Syrians are struck with blindness and led to Samaria. Ben-hadad lays siege to Samaria. The city is in dire straits with exorbitant prices for garbage. An instance of cannalbalism incites the king to swear an oath to kill Elisha. The prophet meets the messenger and the king with an oracle that within 24 hours the siege wil be lifted and food will be on sale at normal prices. The rumor is spread through out the Syrian camp that that Hitties and Musrites for Egypt are helping the Israelites. The Syrians flee. Four lepers eat their fill and plunder the camp before reporting that the Syrians have indeed fled.
Elisha restores the Shunammite’s property after seven years. Benhadad send Hazael to Elisha for an oracle. Elisha predicts Hazael’s succession and his cruel treatment of Israelites in future warfare. Hazael assassinates the Syrian king and assumes the throne. Jehoram’s reign of Judah is followed by Ahaziah.
