Day 45: Numbers 18-20

Day 45: Numbers 18-20

  1. I like the way the tribes have compartmentalized their work and have someone always paying attention to Yahweh. "you shall attend to your priesthood for all that concerns the altar and that is within the veil". They, like Barbara Brown Taylor, speak of a God that resides right where they are. They use the veil that symbolizes the thin fabric between humanity and the transcendent. In chapter 19 Israel is obsessed with coming into contact with a corpse. Much talk about the sacred numbers, 3 and 7, sacred blood, and the sacred ritual around the tent of meeting. In chapter 20 we find the people wandering in the desert and wishing they had never left Egypt. The story of Psalm 95 is told here about Moses striking the rock twice, producing an abundance of water, but somehow in a disbelieving way. Yahweh is not going to grant Moses entrance to the promised land nor Aaron who died on the mountain top.

  2. Seems alot of this passage is about cleanliness and water. Made me think God was trying to impress on them the need to understand His word is about purity of heart and the simple things around us.
