Day 173 Psalms 103-105

Day 173 Psalms 103-105

  1. In Psalm 103 the psalmist sings a hymn of thanksgiving in praise of the Lord’s generosity. “You are merciful and gracious, quelling our anger with your patient Love. You love us more than we can ask or imagine; in truth, we belong to You.” Psalm 104 is a hymn in praise of the divine creative power of earth’s Creator with overtones of the story of Genesis 1. “When we are in harmony with You, the earth provides.” Are we today experiencing the consequence of not being in harmony with Creation? God is faithful to his promises says Psalm 105. “You await our readiness to choose Life.” Psalm 105 reminds us, “Glory in God’s holy name; let the hearts of those who seek God rejoice.” Joan Chittister in Called To Question writes “The danger in this psalm is that what is really being said here might well be missed entirely. At first glance, it seems to be talking about praise: “Glory in God’s holy name.” But what is embedded in the verse is an explanation of exactly who it is who has the right to “glory”. It is not the perfect one. It is the one who seeks. It is the seeking that counts…. But in the God-life, the seeking is itself the end. We never “get” God but we always “have” God. We never “find” God but we forever dwell in God. So, if I’m seeking God, I have already come to God. And that is the height of spirituality.”
