Day 160 Psalms 35-37

Day 160 Psalms 35-37

  1. How many times have we been persecuted when it was undeserved, unprovoked, when we had never given anyone reason to hate? We pray Psalm 35 on such occasions “Let not my unprovoked enemies rejoice over me.” Another how long phrase appears in verse 17. “Lord, how long wilt thou look on?” In Psalm 36 the psalmist listens to the committee in his head that ponders human wickedness. He notes that humans have become so depraved that not even a spark of God resides in the soul . Eventually he turns his thinking and speaking to the Lord. “For with you is the fountain of life, and in your light we see light.” May we live in the Light! Psalm 37 turns back to Job’s question of why the wicked seem to prosper while the good suffer. We see the words that Jesus will speak in the beatitudes. “But the meek shall posses the land, they shall delight in abounding peace.” The tricky part is to abound in peace in the face of persecution and oppression.
