Day 153 Job 39-42

Day 153 Job 39-42

  1. In chapter 39 we have the description of a war horse while in Chapter 40 we see Job move toward submission. While maintaining his righteousness he questions that of God. While he denies traditional theory he demands that God hold to it. While he knows the traditional view of retribution is simplistic he also knows that God’s wisdom in governing the world is beyond man’s comprehension. It is important to note that Job declared himself satisfied before the restoration of his goods. Is there a hint of suffering for the sins of others? In the end, Job’s prosperity is restored as he died, old and full of years. Rev. Michael Piazza notes in Liberating Word , “In Job 40:8, God asks, “Will you condemn me to justify yourself?” If history is any indication, the answer is yes.” One of the commentaries says in chapter 42, “…God is not the custodian of our man-made systems or the guardian of our inferior ethical judgments. Before the God of the whirlwind the little God of retributive justice to whom the friends cling has been reduced to what he really is, an idol fabricated by men…” So what is the answer to suffering? Could it be that there is no solution except in the peace of the Presence? And, where do you find this peace? Perhaps in the stillness behind our thoughts.
