Day 168 Psalms 76-78

Day 168 Psalms 76-78

  1. Psalm 76 is written in thanksgiving for the overthrow of Israel’s foes. Far removed from those times, I think this an immature and inappropriate prayer, until I remember how many times I secretly pray for the opponent’s team to lose the event or the competition to lose the bid? In Psalm 77 the psalmist can remember the times when good was rewarded with divine favor, yet laments here for comfort in time of distress. Many of us lament for comfort in time of distress daily in dealing with our own biological family. How do we interrupt and end the dangerous, psychological games within our dysfunctional family? God is good, says the psalmist in Psalm 78, in spite of the ingratitude of Israel, the Northern kingdom, that is. In his attempt to keep up the tradition, the psalmist writes an easy to remember poem or song in hopes that the children of the unborn generations “should not be like their fathers”. He points to the necessity of obedience to the law and critically judges those who have rebelled and challenged the kingdom of David, God’s chosen.
