Day 164 Psalms 55-60

Day 164 Psalms 55-60

1 comment:

  1. In Psalm 55, the psalmist vividly describes his fear and his longing to flee. He especially bewails the disorder about him, especially the treachery of a former friend. Full of confidence he prays for the overthrow of the wicked and his own deliverance. The psalmist collects his tears in a bottle in order to convince God to help him against his enemy in Psalm 56. Is this an example of creating God in our own image? Does God really need to be convinced by tears in the bottle? In Psalm 57 the psalmist seems to believe that with enough flattery God will deliver. The psalmist is the tattle tell to God about his enemy in Psalm 58 in hopes that God will punish him appropriately. The psalmist is in such a frenzy in Psalm 59 as to ask “Who is there to listen?” In Psalm 60 the psalmist is still losing in war, but thanks God for saving at least a portion of the army. He recalls God’s promises in hopes that this God will again become available and interested in his people. How many of our failures do we tend to blame on the indifference or the anger of God when it is really our inability to step up to responsibility?
