Day 84 - 1 Samuel 21-24

Day 84 - 1 Samuel 21-24

1 comment:

  1. David seeks refuge at Nob with the priest there, Ahimelech. David is unarmed and alone. He demands food. Holy bread, only to be eaten by those ritually clean, is all that is available. David is given the weapon of the Philistine champion he killed. Present on this occasion is Doeg the Edomite. Another version is inserted where David goes to Gath and is called the king of the land, hardly accurate at this point in time. David now flees to Adullam where he becomes the leader of a band of outlaws. Prophetic words order him back to danger in Judah. Saul as king sits with the spear, the royal symbol, in his hand. Doeg, the Edomite, tells Saul about Ahimelech aiding David. Saul condemns them all to death and commands his guards to carry out the sentence. They refuse. Doeg gladly obliges. Saul is not only abandoned by Yahweh, now he promotes holy warfare against Yahweh's priests. Abiathar, son of Ahimelech escapes and joins David's forces. Yahweh commands David to deliver Keilah. There is defeats the Philistines and takes their cattle. Saul intends to come to Keilah in pursuit of David who leaves to remain in wilderness areas. David captures Saul whereupon Saul admits guilt and blesses David. David violates the usual custom and allows his predecessor's family to live.
