With obedience to the covenant come blessings. "The Lord will make you abound in prosperity, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your ground." Then comes the sad refrain of captivity reminiscent and even worse than their stay in Egypt. They remain firm in their faith in Yahweh and contribute their condition to their inability to live the life of the covenant. "The things that are revealed belong to us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law".
