Day 77 - 1 Samuel 1-3

Day 77 - 1 Samuel 1-3

  1. Elkanah had two wives, Hannah and Peninnah. Hannah, the barren wife, prayed in an unconventional way "silently, though her lips were moving." She was reprimanded as being drunk. Her prayer was answered and in response she recited the poem, Song of Hannah, much like the Magnificat. It spells out that Yahweh controls human destiny. Her child, Samuel, is weaned and taken to the temple to be dedicated to the Lord. Samuel becomes successful while the house of Eli, the priest of the temple, falls to ruins. The sons have no interest in the temple or temple duties. Yahweh comes to Samuel in a dream and establishes him as a prophet among the people of Shiloh.
