Day 58: Deuteronomy 24-27

Day 58: Deuteronomy 24-27

  1. Laws develop around how a husband can divorce his wife and limitations on creditors. If the man is poor"when the sun goes down you shall restore to him the pledge that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you'. The memory is kept alive that they were once slaves in Egypt "and the Lord your God redeemed you from there". Then we have the duty of a husband's brother to marry his brother's widow. We are back to the time before centralization of worship where we build an altar, offer brunt offerings, and eat there. Chapter 27 concludes with the list of divine disappovals-curses and "all the people shall answer and say, Amen."
