Day 62: Joshua 1-4

Day 62: Joshua 1-4

  1. Moses is remembered as "the servant of the Lord". Joshua's experience in crossing the Jordan is reminiscent of Moses' experience at the Red Sea. Joshua sends out spies who meet Rahab. The marking of her house with the "scarlet cord" is reminiscent of the marking of the doorposts with blood. Her family will be spared like the Israelites were spared when the angel of death passed through. Rahab declares "the Lord your God is he who is God". The ark of the covenant emits power that destroys anyone who comes too close "do not come near it". "The living God" among them stops the waters of the Jordan for safe passage. On the other side, Joshua "set up twelve stones", a memorial. "They are there to this day". Again, Yahweh delivered Israel to "dry ground". These people of faith have a God who continually delivers them from threatening waters to dry ground.
