Day 27: Exodus 35-37

Day 27: Exodus 35-37

  1. Priests and architects. In this section, the sabbath is still the mark of God's people. They are "to kindle no fire". Now this surely is not to prohibit food to eat or warmth in the homes on winter nights. It must be that the artists were firing their kilns or the craftsmen were practicing their trade on the day of rest. The commentary says that this section was added later. I can see that the architects of the tabernacle and the designers of the priestly garments were proud of their product and wanted to set down the directions for future reference. This passage seems to be the first attempt at rendering architectural drawings. The Hebrews seem proud of their community's craftsmen and give all due credit to Yahweh "he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability, with intelligence, with knowledge." Humans are becoming more conscious of creativity and their ability to express. They see God as an Artist, a Craftsman, expressing through human beings.
