Day 23: Exodus 21-23

  1. The chapters detail how the chosen people shall live. It seems that slavery was as much a part f their life as it was of ours in our beginning. We see emerge the "eye for an eye, tooth for tooth" philosophy.
22:21 "You shall not wrong a stranger...for you were strangers in the land of Egypt...I will surely hear their cry." Memories of the miracle of the exodus are still fresh in their minds. And, we hear here Isaih 1:17.
23:9"You shall not oppress a stranger; you know the heart of a stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt." When I hear the word stranger I alway think of my mother. There was family and there were strangers. In my mind, strangers were enemies not to be trusted. It is interesting that the Hebrews had learned a great lesson in Egypt. They lived among strangers who were God-fearing folks just like themselves. They were forever changed as a people by their Egyptian experience.
