It is interesting to me that the Hebrew community is absorbing into their rituals the Arab practice of smearing blood on the doorpost to ward off disease. 12:17 "And you shall observe the feast of unleaened bread..." Likewise the community is making an agricultural feast into a sacred celebration. 13:8"And you shall tell your son on that day it is because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt..." This ritual of remembering reminds me of the remembering that we do each Sunday morning in the celebration of communion. 13:21"...and by night in a pillar of fire..." This is a very vivid image and comforting feeling of the Presence.
