Day 21: Exodus 14-16

Day 21: Exodus 14-16

  1. 14:14 "The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be still." These words jumped right off the page at me. If I would just get myself out of the way, God could work through me without any effort on my own. How relaxing!
14:19 "angel of God" Yahweh is present.
14:19 "pillar of cloud" God is here.
In chapter 15 we hear from the poets and songwriters of the day about Yahweh's deliverance of the Hebrews out of Egypt. In this chapter Yahweh becomes a "man of war" and "your healer".
In chapter 16, although manna and quail are natural phenomena in the region, this is theology, not history. This awareness of the Presence comes with an awareness of"commandments and my laws". To me, the author pens a saga of a miracle so wondrous that it is captured in poem and song to be handed down from generation to generation. How long have our modern day songs stayed relevant and meaningful? It must have been quite an event!
