“Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees….” Jesus takes issue with externalism and legalism, but hypocrisy is at the top of His hate list. It is hypocrisy that makes fellowship impossible. The prerequisite for any genuine community is truth. Truth is essential to any human intercourse but especially to any real life with God. Genuine human community and genuine life with God are but two sides of the same coin according to Jesus. That is why repentance is indispensible, where by repentance Jesus means acknowledging the truth, moral honesty. And, the truth is that everyone has sin. Everyone has to repent. The Pharisee who did not live repentantly was not living truly. Am I living truly?
