Day 148 Job 18-21

Day 148 Job 18-21

  1. With friends like Bildad and Zophar…? Bildad continues to repeat himself and taunt Job. This supposed consolation of friends only shatters him further. But, Job is a man of persistence. He is so sure that final justice will come that he wants his words permanently recorded. ”Oh, would that my words were written down! Would that they were inscribed in a record.” Job is in search of his personal, spiritual vindicator to assure justice from this new God, a God beyond that which we can understand with present day thinking. He is beyond belief in the old moralistic deity of his day. Job continues to text message God while Zophar speaks at him about the doom of wicked men. Job then gives a final answer to these friends. He challenges old theology as being irrelevant. The traditional view of God does not match his experience of God. Can’t you just feel humankind here on the verge of moving the notion of God from the head toward the heart and sitting with the question, rather than insisting on immediate answers?
