Day 121- 1 Chronicles 21-23

Day 121- 1 Chronicles 21-23

  1. Satan is said to have incited David to number Israel whereas in 2 Samuel God himself does the inciting. This is new theology. Evil can no longer be attributed directly to God. The frequent reference to the angel, 9 times to be exact, reflects the Chronicler’s belief in a God who communicates through intermediaries. They stand between earth and heaven. The Chronicler exaggerates the cost of site of the threshing floor, the site of the temple, to emphasize the precious value. Fire from heaven indicates divine approval of the site. Jerusalem, not Gibeon, is the true center of worship. The Chronicler stresses David’s(not Solomon’s as recorded in 1 Kings) preparations in building the temple; building materials, instructions to Solomon, request to leaders of Israel for help. Solomon, the peaceful man, builds the temple, not David, the warrior, who is ritually unclean for the task. The temple is priceless in value. The Levites no longer have to carry the tabernacle. Their main work now is to assist the Aaronic priests in the temple services.
