Day 249 Ezekiel 32-33

Day 249 Ezekiel 32-33

  1. Pharaoh proudly presents himself as a lion. However, he is really a dragon, a dragon of chaos. Egypt goes down to the nether world, the region of Sheol where the king is with his crown and the warrior with his sword. Here in this pit all the so called greats of the past are stored in decay. There is one people that has not gone down to the pit, but remains alive where the other peoples of the ancient world have perished. The Jews have survived. The prophet calls for repentance and delivers an oracle of individual responsibility. In chapter 33 the prophet, in anticipation of the oncoming crisis, throws himself into a trance. When the fugitive brings news of Jerusalem’s fall the prophet is incapable of speech and stricken with sorrow. As stunned as he is with the news he is prepared to meet it. He speaks. People come to listen to him, but heed not his word. They come as if for entertainment, not as people driven to action. Does it sound like a typical Sunday service?
