In chapter 21 the seer views a new creation. All that God made in the beginning is removed. With the coming of a new heaven and a new earth John adds that the sea was no more. This may be a reflection of Jewish awe and dread before the mysteries and dangers of the vast deep. The new Jerusalem descends and is personified as a bride made ready for Christ. With images drawn in large part from Ezekiel, John describes the new Jerusalem, already existing in its perfection and splendor in heaven and ready to descend on the new earth. No person or thing will be permitted in the city that would desecrate it.
