Michael Piazza in Liberating Word says “the truth is the only reason the Church has ever paid ANY attention to Malachi is that his writing contains the greatest passage in the Bible about the subject of tithing: “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in my house, and thus put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts; see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing.”…I believe Malachi’s prophecy is as true today as it was in 425 BCE. I believe it is a core spiritual principle that we who are the people of faith ought to give back 10 percent of all we have…If we gave it a chance, we might discover that the First Testament actually did end with a great word of hope. Generosity is the cure for much of what ails our world…and us.”
