Day 276 Zechariah 11-14

Day 276 Zechariah 11-14

  1. Chapters 12 -14 are referred to as Third Zechariah, apocalyptic in nature. The God sketched here is the Creator of the world, Lord of history, author of victory, God of compassion, God of cleansing and redemption, and universal. The apocalyptic God is not fundamentally different from the God of the law and prophets. The surprise element in this section is the condemnation of prophecy. In the victorious day of the Lord idols will be removed, and also prophets and unclean spirit. There is no need of prophets because God himself will speak to men. In this section we also have the “doctrine of the remnant with a vengeance”. The whole nation is reduced to a third which is further reduced by being refined as silver and tested as gold with fire. What remains are a few good people who acknowledge God. Then we see the transformation of the secular world into the new earth, a realization of what was longed for and lacking on the earth as it is. All barriers are broken between the sacred and the secular. The international God saves humanity.
