Chapter 23 addresses the common sense issues of life. Wealth can be deceitful. Choose friends wisely. Respect boundaries. Discipline your children. Don’t be envious of the successful sinner. And, drink responsibly. “Wisdom is sweeter than honey” says chapter 24. And, these, the Chosen Ones, have the mandate from God to respond to human need. Ignorance is no excuse! Chapter 25 tells us that there is a time and place for everything, including a song. It mandates feeding the enemy. The great example, of course, is the forgiving spirit as expressed in the story of Joseph in Genesis. He represents Hebrew wisdom at its best says the commentator.
