Day 238 Lamentations 3-5

Day 238 Lamentations 3-5

  1. Michael Piazza in Liberating Word says “Right here in the middle of the Bible’s most woeful book, is a beautiful word of comfort. Notice the author doesn’t promise that everything will all be alright. The author doesn’t speak of a day when God’s servant will reign again and life will be restored. There isn’t even the promise of a better life in the by-and-by. In fact there is not hint of heaven or resurrection to be found. Instead, what the author offers is a testimony about God:
    But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope;
    The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
    His mercies never come to an end’ they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
    “The Lord is my portion,”says my soul “therefore I will hope in God.”
    The wonderful Christian hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness” is based on this passage buried in the heart of this book…… The author of Lamentations calls us to trust God’s unending steadfast love, even though he didn’t believe in heaven or an afterlife. The author calls us to trust God’s mercy, even when we are in the middle of a time of grief and pain. Forr me, the author of Lamentations challenges me to reconsider what I believe and why.” What do I believe?
