Day 220 Jeremiah 6-8

Day 220 Jeremiah 6-8

1 comment:

  1. “They would repair, as though it were nought” The false assurance of well-being given by priest and prophet cannot reduce the harm which universal materialism and corruption have done to the people. “Queen of heaven” a title given to Mary was the title of Assyro-Babylonian Ishar, goddess of fertility, whose worship was introduced under King Manasseh and was revived after Josiah’s death. “Is there no balm in Gilead?” Gilead is noted for its healing balm but unable to heal the moral wound of the people. Jeremiah is clearly upset with the sacrificial system and the semi-magical contrivances of the priesthood. He gives the voice of Yahweh primacy over all other authoritative claims. The voice of God that he hears demands justice, righteousness, and mercy. Do we give our lives over to the priesthood today? And, if we hear a voice how do we know that it is God’s voice?
